Hey, what’s up? It’s Jerad with Ditch Auto. Today, we’re going to take a look at the Peak Design’s Everyday Sling. This is the 10L or the 10 liter. I picked this up because I wanted something that was a bit lighter, that was smaller. It was just easy to put on, that I could pull around and grab my camera out of. I think that I’ve been watching a lot of everyday carry type of videos where people have these sling bags that you can grab by the zipper and sling open and pull your weapon out of. I thought wow, that would be cool if I could find a bag that was pretty similar to that. And while the Peak Design’s bag isn’t exactly that, it is pretty similar in the sense to where I could grab it by this strap and pull it around toward me and then open the bag and then have access to all of my stuff.
So I was pretty excited to get my hands on one of these. I’ve bought some other Peak Design products, and I’ve reviewed a few of them here. I was kind of hesitant because I didn’t necessarily want to drop more money on Peak Design bags because how many bags does one person really need? And I have a ton of bags. So I jumped in, decided to buy it, and I’m really glad that I did.
Now it doesn’t necessarily hold everything that I would want to carry with me, but it’s nice to have limitations. I have a lot of stuff that I end up carrying with me, and I don’t always end up needing all of it.
So let’s talk a little bit about this bag. Before we go inside of it, it’s expandable. This also, these straps down here also are expandable so that you can hang a tripod from it, and the tripod just goes right underneath, like a good travel size tripod would fit there very nice. These are adjustable so that you can give yourself a little bit more room, depending on the size of the tripod. And then of course, you can tuck these straps away so that they aren’t hanging and dangling down below your bag.
It also is expandable. You can see that it’s expanding out a little bit because I have a few extra items in there. I definitely do have this bag pretty well stuffed. On the back side here, there is a handle, a very strong handle, which I like. This is one of the things that I like the most about the Peak Design bags is this handle. It makes it easy for me to just grab my bag and pull it out of my truck or wherever it happens to be sitting. A lot of bags don’t have a really well-placed handle, and so with this one, when you pick it up, it doesn’t, depending on where your weight is, it isn’t really going to matter too much because it just hangs nicely. So if you have a lighter bag, you’re not going to have it shifting all to one side because they’ve already been pretty smart about where they attach that. I don’t know if you have that problem when you pick up a bag and it just isn’t balanced very well when you’re carrying it. I like the position of the handle.
The strap is very comfortable. It’s adjustable with their Peak Design clip. Or I’m not sure exactly what they call this. The slide. I know that their actual camera strap is called The Slide. So it has this for adjustability and of course, this makes it nice. I know that if I’m going to be riding my skateboard home, I want the bag up a little bit tighter around me, not necessarily dangling as low as I normally would if I was just walking. There’s also a lot more adjustment here with the cable, with the strap, and you could actually shove the remaining strap into the bag so that it’s nice and hidden, and it doesn’t have to be flowing around. It comes that way out of the box, default. I had to pull some extra out because I’m a bigger guy and so I needed a little bit of additional strap there.
So let’s look inside. Everything on the outside is good. There’s your mounts here to use their clips or the mount for quick release of a camera so you can hang a camera off the side. I feel a little uneasy about that on my everyday messenger bag. I’ve always had their setup over here. I just never put a camera on it because I don’t know. For me, I think this would make more sense. A bag like this would be something I might go on a hike or if I’m going to go walk around a bigger city or something like that. I might take a bag like this and hang a camera off of it. So it actually positions well where the camera actually hangs because your bag is going to hang kind of like this, and your camera is just going to hang underneath it. I kind of like that. I don’t have all of those pieces here to give you an example. I’ll probably show you a couple of photos when I have it all set up because this is mostly a review of the bag, not necessarily all the other accessories.
So if we open up the bag, we’ve got this pouch here, which I’ve filled with tons of stuff. It has some small little slots here that are good for … I guess they’re maybe the size of a flash drive or whatnot. A bigger one over here that I typically put my little Samsung hard drive in. I have a little adapter here for SD cards, a little flashlight and some dongles for my various things that are still Apple products. So those all fit in there nicely.
Below that, in the main area here, I have my … I think this is the A73. Yeah, the A73. I have a Rode mic and I also have another lens over here. They make their dividers really nice. I could actually just pop that down so if I had this lens over here, it’s only half the height. I could pop it down like that and then put another lens or something right on top of it. I absolutely love that about their bags.
A lot of other bags out there, you end up pulling half of these out. They either have to be un-Velcroed to use them in this way, which kind of makes it a pain in the butt. These fold down nice right in place. I absolutely love that. And then on the back side of the back of the inside here, I have an iPad. This will fit a 13-inch laptop. I have a Razer Blade Stealth or a Razer Stealth, and I cannot quite get it to fit in here. It sticks up just enough to where I don’t want to drag the … I could get it to close, but I don’t want to drag the zipper over the top of my laptop. So I typically just use this with my iPad. I’ve considered maybe getting a slightly smaller laptop that would fit in there because this would be for traveling, not for heavy lifting. This would be for being nimble and being able to get around quickly. I wouldn’t want to necessarily bring a big laptop or anything like that with me.
So then we also have this front pouch here, which is rather expandable. I’ve got a big battery pack in here for charging some of my stuff. I’ve got all of my SD cards. I’ve got another dongle because it’s just the world we live in these days. Lots of stuff in this pouch that fits kind of big. It’s really expandable. It will expand out quite a bit. I could even get a little bit more if I loosen these up. This pulls out quite a bit. You can see there’s a lot of expandability room here or room for expansion. I just have it tightened up. With this bag, my goal was to just take the things that matter, not like with the backpack, the Peak Design backpack. I’ve been using that, the big one. I can fit so much stuff in there, and I take so many things with me, and I don’t know why because I don’t end up using most of them.
Even with my everyday messenger bag, when I was using that, I would tend to keep that thing stocked pretty full. This makes it nice because this bag is very simple, very easy to carry. It’s not super heavy. You can’t really make it super heavy because you can’t pack it down too much. I probably have it about as heavy as I could possibly get it right now. Maybe I will weigh it just to see if that’s interesting, just to see how heavy it actually got.
What’s nice too is that these straps here, they rotate very easily and so the bag just feels good when you’re carrying it. As far as this sling bag goes, I just never really liked the style of a lot of sling bags. This bag is just fantastic. This is the darkest of the colors available. They have a couple of colors. I wanted the dark one, even though some of my other bags are more charcoal color. I just like this one. It looks good. It’s not over the top as far as the size or the dark. It’s black, but it’s not a huge backpack. So for me, it does everything that it needs to do.
Yeah, you know, of course maybe if it was a little bigger, I could carry another lens or two with me, but the goal here for me was to carry just what I need and not get carried away because I always end up getting carried away, carrying too many things, and I actually have more than I need on a daily basis in this bag.
So if you’re looking for a bag that’s just really stylish and functional, I think you’re going to like the Peak Design bags. Check out some of the other Peak Design bag reviews that I have done just showing you how I use them. There’s a coupon code down below or there’s actually a link you click on. It’ll save you a certain percentage — I think right now, it’s 15 percent — off of your purchase. If you click that link, you’ll get that discount applied during checkout and it’ll let all the folks know over at Peak Design that they should send me my next bag for free because I haven’t gotten any bags or any stuff from them for free, which I don’t really care. If I got stuff for free, then I’d feel obligated that I have to talk about it. I really am not about just talking about stuff for the sake of talking about it on this channel. I want to talk about things that I find useful, things that I think provide value and solve a problem. For me, the problem was having a relatively small size bag that was easy to access my camera from that limited the things that I could take while still giving me enough room to take what I need on a daily basis to do the variety of things that I do.
So that’s going to do it for this video. If you’d like to give it a thumbs up, if you have not yet subscribed to our channel here on Ditch Auto and make sure to check out our free Ditch Auto course.
